5 simple tips for curating a gallery wall
A perfect solution for having a blank wall stare at you is curating a gallery wall. I get it, that can be overwhelming- where to start, what frames to get or what art to pair together. Today I thought I’d share my simple tips to curate a gallery wall.
Play with pairings
Florals or botanicals pair well with abstract or simpler pieces. It allows for the eye to move around. Simpler art can balance a busy floral. (I have some beautiful, soft florals and botanicals in my shop.
Vary the mat size
Wide mats with tiny art adds a lot of interest. Alternatively, don’t use a mat. This can work well with any antique frame.
Play with layout
Keep it as a grid or keep it fluid. This also depends on the frame you get. I have used the same frame for all my pictures and created a grid. I also have gallery wall with different frames to make it a bit more organic. If you have two gallery walls, vary the layout; that’s a great way to different them.
Placement
This is key. The centre of the gallery wall should be at eye-level. That’s the best way to capture attention. You don’t want to crane your neck to check out the top most frame.
Mix artwork with family pictures.
A follow up to the first point but totally mix your family portraits with art work. Works especially well is you have a seasonal theme going or similar color palette.
